Description:
Hardy New Zealand native shrub known for its attractive, divaricating glossy foliage that changes colour with the seasons. The leaves are small, shiny, and typically green with bronze or orange-red tones in cooler months, giving it a vibrant appearance year-round. This dense, bushy shrub is ideal for coastal and urban gardens, offering both form and colour contrast. It’s wind, salt, and drought-tolerant once established, making it well-suited to Auckland’s climate.

Position:
Full sun to partial shade. Tolerates coastal exposure and wind. Prefers a sheltered site for best leaf colour
Soil:
Well-drained soil. Grows in most soil types, including sandy or clay soils if drainage is good. Avoid waterlogged areas

· Low hedging or borders
· Coastal and coastal-style gardens
· Mixed shrub plantings
· Erosion control or bank planting
· Container planting for patios or courtyards
Care tips:
· Water regularly during establishment, then occasionally in dry spells
· Prune lightly after flowering or in late winter to maintain compact shape
· Apply mulch annually to retain moisture and suppress weeds
· Feed in spring with a balanced slow-release fertiliser
· Generally, pest and disease free, but watch for scale insects or mealybugs in humid conditions
