Corokia 'Geenty's Green'
Description:
A hardy New Zealand native shrub with a dense, naturally rounded growth habit and small, glossy green leaves. Corokia 'Geenty's Green' is valued for its fine-textured foliage, compact form and ability to hold a neat shape, making it an excellent choice for clipped hedges, borders and structured garden designs. Its fine branching creates year-round texture, while small yellow star-shaped flowers appear in spring, followed by berries on female plants when pollination occurs.
Height:
1.5-2m
Width:
1-1.5m
Position:
Prefers full sun for the densest growth and best foliage colour but will tolerate partial shade. Performs well in exposed positions and coastal gardens due to its natural tolerance of wind.
Soil:
Prefers a well-drained soil but is adaptable to a wide range of soil types, including poorer and sandy soils. Avoid heavy, poorly drained sites where roots may remain wet.
Uses:
- Formal or informal hedging
- Structured garden borders
- Feature shrub for texture and form
- Coastal and exposed landscapes
- Native and contemporary planting schemes
- Low-maintenance screening
Care Tips:
- Water regularly while establishing to encourage a dense root system, then reduce once established as it is tolerant of dry conditions
- Trim lightly in late spring or after flowering to maintain a neat, compact shape and encourage branching
- Avoid heavy pruning into old wood, as regrowth can be slower on older stems
- Apply mulch around the base to help retain moisture and suppress weeds
- Feed in spring with a balanced slow-release fertiliser to encourage healthy foliage and growth
- Hardy and reliable once established, with good tolerance of wind, coastal conditions and light frost
