Description:
Low-growing, evergreen shrub with glossy, deep green foliage and highly fragrant, creamy-white double flowers from late spring through summer, often continuing sporadically into autumn in warmer areas. A compact, spreading form of gardenia, it is ideal as a groundcover, border edging, or for container planting. The beautifully scented flowers make it an excellent choice near patios, pathways, and entrances.

Position:
Prefers a warm, sheltered position in full sun to part shade. In warmer regions of New Zealand, afternoon shade helps protect the foliage. Protect from strong winds and heavy frost.
Soil:
Moist, well-drained, acidic soil enriched with organic matter. Avoid alkaline soils and prolonged waterlogging.
Uses:
- Fragrant groundcover in garden beds
- Border or edging plant
- Excellent in pots and containers near entrances or outdoor living areas
- Underplanting beneath larger shrubs in sheltered gardens
- Cottage and subtropical gardens
Care Tips:
- Feed with an acid-loving plant fertiliser (such as camellia or rhododendron fertiliser) in spring and again in summer
- Keep soil evenly moist, particularly during dry periods, but avoid waterlogged conditions
- Mulch annually to retain soil moisture and keep the roots cool
- Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a compact shape and encourage bushy growth
- Protect young plants from heavy frost, especially in colder inland regions
- Avoid disturbing the roots when planting or transplanting, as gardenias establish best when left undisturbed
