Description:
Compact, evergreen citrus tree prized for its sweet, thin-skinned lemons and attractive glossy foliage. The fruit is rounder and less acidic than standard lemons, with a rich, slightly floral flavour. It produces fragrant white blossoms in spring and can fruit several times a year in Auckland’s mild climate. Ideal for home gardens and containers.

Position:
Full sun (at least 6 hours daily), Sheltered from strong winds and frost. Prefers a warm microclimate — against a north-facing wall or in a sunny courtyard works well
Soil:
Free-draining, fertile soil, slightly acidic to neutral pH. Avoid waterlogged or heavy clay soils
Uses:
· Home-grown lemons for cooking, drinks, and preserves
· Ornamental feature or patio tree
· Excellent in large pots or planters
· Attracts bees and pollinators
Care Tips:
· Keep soil evenly moist, especially in dry periods, but do not overwater
· Use a citrus-specific fertiliser from spring to early autumn (every 6–8 weeks)
· Maintain a mulch layer to retain moisture and suppress weeds, but keep it clear of the trunk
· Lightly prune after fruiting to maintain shape and remove dead or crossing branches.
· Young trees may need covering during cold snaps
· Watch for aphids, scale, and citrus leaf miner — treat with horticultural oil or natural sprays as needed
