Creeping Rosemary
Description:
Low-growing, evergreen rosemary with a spreading, cascading habit and aromatic, needle-like green foliage. Masses of soft blue to violet-blue flowers appear from late winter through spring, often flowering intermittently throughout the year in mild New Zealand climates. Its trailing growth makes it ideal for spilling over retaining walls, raised beds, hanging baskets, and large containers. The fragrant foliage is also widely used for culinary purposes.

Position:
Full sun. Thrives in open, sunny positions and tolerates wind, coastal exposure, and dry conditions.
Soil:
Well-drained soil. Tolerates poor, sandy, gravelly, and rocky soils but dislikes heavy clay and prolonged waterlogging.

Care Tips:

- Water regularly while establishing; once established it is highly drought tolerant
- Avoid overwatering, particularly during winter
- Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a dense habit and encourage fresh growth, avoiding heavy pruning into old wood
- Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring if required
- Tolerates drought, wind, coastal exposure, and salt spray, making it well suited to New Zealand conditions
- Hardy throughout most of New Zealand, though young plants may benefit from protection in areas with severe frosts
