Description:

A popular evergreen climber with glossy, dark green leaves that turn bronze in winter, adding seasonal colour. In summer, it produces masses of highly fragrant, star-shaped white flowers that gradually fade to cream. It is versatile, growing as a climber, ground cover, or even a clipped hedge. Loved for its perfume and lush foliage, it is ideal for softening structures, covering walls, or spilling over garden edges.

Height:

3–6 m when supported as a climber

Width:

2–4 m spread (can be clipped to size)

Position:

Full sun to part shade; flowers best with good sun

Soil:

Fertile, well-drained soil; tolerates a range of soils once established

Uses:

·          Climber for walls, fences, trellises, pergolas

·          Ground cover or mass planting on banks

·          Low clipped hedge or edging

·          Container growing on patios and balconies

·          Ideal for perfumed gardens and courtyards

Care Tips:

·          Regular watering while establishing; drought-tolerant once mature

·          Apply a slow-release fertiliser in spring for strong growth and flowering

·          Trim after flowering to shape and control size; can be clipped into formal hedges

·          Needs a trellis, wires, or other support if used as a climber

·          Hardy in most NZ regions but may need protection in colder inland or frosty spots
