Callistemon 'Little John'
Dwarf Bottlebrush
Description:
Compact, evergreen Australian shrub with a dense, rounded growth habit and attractive blue-green foliage. It produces distinctive bright red, brush-like flowers, with the main flowering display occurring from spring through summer and often extending beyond this period in favourable conditions. Its naturally compact form, colourful flowers and hardy nature make 'Little John' an excellent choice for low hedges, borders, mass planting, containers and low-maintenance landscapes. The flowers are attractive to bees, butterflies and other nectar-feeding wildlife.

Care Tips:
- Water regularly during establishment; once established, it is tolerant of dry conditions and requires additional watering mainly during prolonged dry periods
- Lightly prune after flowering to maintain a compact, rounded shape and encourage dense new growth
- Remove spent flower heads if desired to keep the plant tidy and encourage further flowering
- Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring to support healthy growth and flowering
- Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds, keeping mulch away from the stem
- Ensure good drainage, particularly in areas prone to winter wet
- Protect young plants from severe frost until established
- Hardy and adaptable, making it well suited to many parts of New Zealand
