Corokia ‘Frosted Chocolate’

Description:

Compact, evergreen shrub known for its striking bronze-brown to chocolate-coloured foliage with silvery tips. It has a fine, wiry branching habit, giving it a textured, architectural appearance in gardens. The plant produces small, star-shaped yellow flowers in spring, followed by bright orange berries that attract birds. Its unique foliage colour and form make it a standout feature for hedges, rock gardens, and container planting.

Position:

Full sun to partial shade, best colour is achieved in full sun

Soil:

Well-drained soil. Tolerates poor and sandy soils.

Uses:

·          Specimen plant for feature garden spots

·          Attracts birds with berries

Care Tips:

·          Water regularly during establishment; drought-tolerant once mature. Avoid waterlogged soil

·          Light pruning after flowering to maintain shape and encourage bushy growth

·          Apply a slow-release native or general shrub fertiliser in spring

·          Use organic mulch around base to retain moisture and suppress weeds

·          Hardy in Auckland; may need protection in extreme cold
