Description:
Hardy, evergreen New Zealand native perennial forming attractive clumps of long, narrow, arching green foliage. In late spring and summer, delicate pale blue to white, star-shaped flowers are produced on slender stems above the foliage, followed by striking glossy blue to violet-blue berries. The colourful berries provide excellent ornamental interest and are attractive to native birds. It’s neat, clumping habit and adaptability make it a versatile choice for native gardens, borders, mass planting and underplanting.

Position:
Part shade to full sun. Performs particularly well in dappled or partial shade but is adaptable to sunnier positions where adequate moisture is available. Shelter from harsh, hot afternoon sun and drying winds where possible.
Soil:
Prefers well-drained soil with reasonable moisture but is adaptable to a wide range of soil conditions. It can tolerate periods of dryness once established, although it performs best where the soil does not become excessively dry for prolonged periods.

Care Tips:
- Water regularly during establishment and through prolonged dry periods; once established, it is reasonably tolerant of dry conditions
- Remove old or damaged foliage in spring to maintain a neat, fresh appearance
- Divide established clumps when they become overcrowded or if additional plants are required
- Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring if required to encourage healthy foliage and flowering
- Mulch around the plant to help retain moisture and suppress weeds, keeping mulch away from the base of the foliage
- Avoid consistently waterlogged soil and ensure reasonable drainage
- Hardy and adaptable, tolerating light to moderate frost and coastal conditions once established
- Leave the attractive berry stems in place if you want to enjoy the seasonal colour and provide food for birds
