Description:
A unique New Zealand native groundcover with a naturally low-growing, creeping habit. It forms spreading mats of fine, flexible stems carrying small, rounded bright green leaves. Unlike most fuchsias, its distinctive flowers are held upright rather than hanging, with golden-yellow and purple colouring and prominent blue stamens. Flowers are followed by attractive crimson to magenta berries. An unusual and versatile native that provides excellent groundcover and works particularly well in coastal and naturalistic plantings.

Position:
Full sun to partial shade. It is particularly well suited to coastal conditions and tolerates wind and salt exposure. Partial shade can help maintain greener foliage, while a frost-free position is recommended as it is frost tender.
Soil:
Moist, free-draining soil. It is adaptable to a range of soil types but performs best where drainage is good. Avoid prolonged drought, particularly while establishing.

Care Tips:
- Water regularly while establishing, particularly during dry periods.
- Apply mulch around the plant to help retain moisture and suppress weeds, keeping mulch away from the stems.
- Feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser if required.
- Allow the long stems to spread naturally or guide them over banks, walls and other suitable areas.
- Prune lightly if required to keep the plant within its allotted space.
- Long stems that root where they touch the ground can be separated and replanted.
- Protect from heavy frost and choose a frost-free position.
- Avoid prolonged drought and ensure good drainage.
- Plant in partial shade if you want to encourage greener foliage and a lush groundcover effect.
