Chilean Iris

Description:
Evergreen, clump-forming perennial with upright, sword-like green foliage that provides year-round structure and texture. Delicate white, iris-like flowers appear from late spring to early summer, held above the foliage, and are followed by distinctive bright orange seed capsules that provide long-lasting ornamental interest well into autumn. Its tidy, architectural form makes it an excellent choice for borders, mass planting, contemporary gardens, and coastal landscapes.

Position:
Full sun to part shade. Flowers best in full sun but appreciates some afternoon shade in hotter areas. Tolerates wind, coastal conditions, and light frost once established.

Soil:
Prefers fertile, well-drained soil but adapts to a wide range of soil types provided drainage is good. Avoid prolonged waterlogging.

Care Tips:

• Water regularly during establishment; once established it tolerates short dry periods
• Remove spent flower stems and old foliage as needed to keep plants looking tidy
• Divide established clumps every 3–5 years in spring or autumn to maintain vigour
• Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring to encourage healthy new growth
• Hardy and well suited to New Zealand conditions, tolerating wind, coastal exposure, and light frost once established
