Hebe 'Wiri Mist'
Veronica 'Wiri Mist'
Description:
Compact, evergreen New Zealand native shrub with attractive green foliage and a dense, bushy growth habit. It produces masses of soft white flower spikes with a delicate appearance from spring through summer, creating a beautiful display that attracts bees and other beneficial pollinators. Its tidy form and reliable flowering make it an excellent choice for borders, low hedging, mass planting, and contemporary landscapes.
Height:
60–90cm
Width:
80–120cm
Position:
Full sun to part shade. Performs best in full sun for the strongest flowering but tolerates light shade. Suitable for sheltered gardens and adaptable to coastal conditions, wind, and light frost once established.
Soil:
Prefers fertile, well-drained soil. Adaptable to a range of soil types but performs best where drainage is good. Avoid consistently wet or waterlogged soils.
Uses:
- Low hedging and edging
- Mass planting and shrub borders
- Rockeries and native gardens
- Coastal gardens
- Containers and small-space planting
- Pollinator-friendly gardens
Care Tips:
- Water regularly during establishment and during prolonged dry periods; once established it is reasonably drought tolerant
- Lightly prune after flowering to maintain a compact shape and encourage dense, bushy growth
- Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring to promote healthy foliage and flowering
- Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds, keeping mulch away from the stem
- Avoid overwatering, as good drainage is essential for healthy growth
- Hardy and well suited to New Zealand conditions, tolerating wind, light frost, and coastal exposure once established
