Description:
Compact, evergreen shrub with dense, glossy dark green foliage and clusters of fragrant white flowers from late winter through spring. The blooms attract bees and other beneficial pollinators and are followed by attractive berries that ripen from red to metallic blue-black, providing seasonal interest and food for birds. Its naturally bushy growth habit makes it an excellent choice for hedging, screening, or as a feature shrub.

Position:
Full sun to part shade. Flowers best in a sunny position but tolerates light shade.
Soil:
Well-drained, moderately fertile soil. Adaptable to a wide range of soil types, including clay and sandy soils, provided drainage is adequate.

Care Tips:
- Water regularly while establishing; once established it is moderately drought tolerant
- Lightly prune after flowering to maintain shape and remove dead or damaged growth
- Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring to encourage healthy growth and flowering
- Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds, keeping mulch away from the stems
- Generally hardy and low maintenance; occasionally check for aphids or scale
- Tolerates coastal conditions, light frost, and urban environments throughout most of New Zealand
