Coprosma ‘Painter’s Palette'
Mirror Plant
Description:
A striking evergreen shrub admired for its glossy, variegated foliage in shades of cream, gold, green and pink-bronze tones. The colourful leaves create a unique painted appearance, with colour intensity changing throughout the seasons and depending on growing conditions. Its compact, bushy habit makes it an excellent choice for adding year-round colour and contrast to gardens and containers.
Height:
0.8-1.2m
Width:
0.8-1.2m
Position:
Prefers full sun to partial shade. The best foliage colour develops in a sunny position, although some protection from harsh afternoon sun may benefit plants in hotter areas.
Soil:
Prefers a well-drained soil and is adaptable to a range of conditions. Tolerates coastal exposure, wind and poorer soils once established.
Uses:
- Feature shrub for year-round colour
- Low hedging and garden borders
- Container planting for patios and courtyards
- Coastal and urban gardens
- Adds contrast and texture to mixed plantings
Care Tips:
- Water regularly while establishing, then during extended dry periods
- Lightly prune to maintain a compact shape and encourage bushy growth
- Apply mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds
- Feed in spring with a balanced slow-release fertiliser to encourage healthy growth and vibrant foliage
- Protect young plants from severe frost; established plants are hardy in most New Zealand conditions
