Description:
Attractive evergreen shrub prized for its rich burgundy to purple foliage and masses of vibrant pink, fringe-like flowers that appear from late winter through spring, with lighter repeat flowering often occurring in autumn. The fine, strap-shaped petals give the blooms a soft, wispy appearance. It forms a naturally dense, rounded shrub that provides outstanding year-round colour and contrast, making it an excellent choice for borders, hedging, or feature planting in both formal and contemporary gardens.

Position:
Full sun to part shade. Best foliage colour and flowering occur in full sun, though it tolerates light shade.

Soil:
Prefers fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Avoid poorly drained or waterlogged sites.

Care Tips:

• Water regularly during establishment; once established it is reasonably drought tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering during extended dry periods
• Apply a fertiliser formulated for acid-loving plants in spring to encourage healthy foliage and flowering
• Lightly prune after the main flowering flush to maintain a compact shape and encourage fresh growth
• Mulch around the base to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds, keeping mulch clear of the trunk
• Ensure good drainage, as plants dislike wet feet and may develop root problems in waterlogged soils
• Hardy in most New Zealand gardens and tolerant of light frost once established, although young plants benefit from protection in colder inland areas
